Wagara Collection

Inspired by Wagara - Traditional Japanese Pattern Design

Our Wagara collection celebrates one of the world's great decorative traditions - the classical patterns of Japan known as wagara (和柄), where wa means "Japanese-style" and gara means "pattern." Dating back to the Heian period (794–1185), each design carries its own meaning and symbolism rooted in nature, spirituality, and Japanese culture. Our collection features four of these timeless patterns: Sayagata, an intricate geometric design of interlocking Buddhist symbols representing life and strength, introduced to Japan through China in the sixteenth century; Shippo, an eternal chain of interconnected circles named for the seven treasures of Buddhism, filled with wishes for happiness, harmony, and good karma; Tsuru (crane), a sacred symbol of longevity, good fortune, and elegance; and Sakura (cherry blossom), which heralds the beginning of spring and carries meanings of abundance and prosperity. We bring these enduring designs into everyday objects for your home, honouring a visual language passed down through generations of Japanese artisans.
